#Halloween #WestHollyood 2014

Went to West Hollywood for Halloween Carnaval last night.  Almost didn't go because the forecast was for rain in the evening, but took a chance on it not arriving til later.  It did start sprinkling around 8:30pm or so, so left early.  I think a lot of people came early just in case the weather didn't cooperate, so still got a lot of nice photos, just not as many as I would have with good weather.  Also, because of the possibility of rain, brought a different camera and grabbed the wrong lens for this type of event.  Well, on a full frame sensor camera, it would have been the right lens (24mm - 105mm), but on a cropped frame sensor, it was a 38.4mm at the widest.  Because of all the people at this event, you need to get really close to whoever you want to photograph, so you need a wider lens, such as 24mm.

One very nice young lady asked to see her photos - I gave her my blog address and hope she is able to find it, because here are her photos.  If she does find these, and would like larger size images, please feel free to email me and I will be happy to send them to you.  Same goes for anyone else who may see themselves here or on FB.

The photos were shot with a Canon EOS 40D - one thing I found out is that at twilight, using flash with ambient light and aperture priority doesn't work.  The bottom photo shows what can happen.  Luckily, the top two photos came out good after changing to P mode.  Manual probably would have been best.  The one with the smoke coming out came out as I had hoped.

Here are some more photos from last night.  More will be following in the coming days.  These 4 were also posted on FB.

Got some people, some dogs, some children, and lots of creatures.  Enjoy and hope you all had a fun Halloween!
