A Few More Memorial Day Weekend Photos

On Saturday, there was Sumo wrestling - didn't get any photos of that event.  Sunday there was boxing - here are a couple of images from that event:

And some more from Monday's competitions:

July 4th will be the next event at the weight pen, although may be adding some more between now and then.   Also coming up is a paddle tennis tournament, and I'm sure there will be handball and basketball events also.

Hope you've all enjoyed the photos.  I've been taking pictures at Venice Beach since about 1980 and will be posting some of those from time to time.

Don't forget that in addition to these scheduled events at Venice Beach, other things are always going on - I always carry a camera because you never know what you may see.  And just when you think you've seen it all, something new pops up.  Always FREE entertainment.

Memorial Day Photos 2012 - Venice Beach

Memorial Day at Venice Beach is always interesting.  There was the  C-17 Globemaster flyover at 1:00pm

And the bodybuilding and bikini contests

The photo below, although not as sharp as I would have liked, is one of my favorites.

Well, we just had an earthquake, thankfully not a major one.  First one I've felt in years.  Hope it isn't a fore shock!  Just heard it was a 4.0 centered around 30 miles away near the Channel Islands.

Now, back to the subject of this blog - a few more photos  of the contestants:

The photos were taken with a Panasonic FZ30, most near midday.  Although they were shot in .jpg mode, used Adobe Camera Raw 7.0 to work on the images to improve them - great program and works better than earlier versions.  They should pay me for saying this, LOL.  Hope you enjoy the images.

Memorial Day 2012

Lots of activities at Venice Beach this weekend.  Yesterday they had sumo wrestling - pretty fun to watch.  Today there are boxing matches, and tomorrow is the big competition at the weight pen (right next to the paddle tennis courts - where you can find me a lot).  I'll be out there with my camera seeing....who knows what, because at Venice Beach, well...you never know what you might see.  Whether it's an ape on a bicycle, a monkey on skates, a chainsaw or fire juggler, sword swallower, or ??????? - you just never know.  I've seen all of the above.  This photo says it all:

I learned today on my FB page that today is the 71st anniversary of the sinking of the Bismark.  If you are unsure what that is about, there was an old Johnny Horten song you can see on YouTube here:

Have a great weekend.
